Danau Ubar

Lake Ubar is an area where the community catches fish. The local community has a story that Lake Ubar has origins created by a woman named Dayang Lumau. Additionally, there is a story that tells of the existence of a white crocodile near the bend of Lake Ubar and a large mengkirai tree where people used to make offerings/rituals. Furthermore, around Lake Ubar, there are also tembawang and graves from the legacy of the Dayak Iban war. Lake Ubar has been managed through generations due to the community's interest in fishing. The management initiative for Lake Ubar is supported by external parties, such as: the Kapuas Raya Nature Institute, the Food Security and Fisheries Office, and WWF Indonesia in 2021 to create an agreement for the sustainable management of Lake Ubar.

The community has utilized the fish from Lake Ubar for consumption and small-scale sales as additional income. Usually, the community catches fish together during the dry season. The main rule established in the management of Lake Ubar is that fishing with poison and electricity is prohibited, and the community is not allowed to exploit the fish from Lake Ubar on a large scale. Currently, the formation of management regulations is still in process—there are no customary regulations or village regulations governing the management of Lake Ubar yet.

The management carried out by the community over Lake Ubar contributes to the preservation of the lake ecosystem and the welfare of the village community. Through management regulations that prohibit the use of environmentally unfriendly fishing gear and limit the utilization of natural resources in Lake Ubar, the community hopes this can be established as a sustainable management activity.

The Indigenous Dayak Ketungau community (Dayak Demam and Dayak Sebaruk) does not yet have a legal basis or specific regulations governing the recognition and protection of rights and the protection of the community-managed area.
