History of Initiative
Sebeyen Belangk is an area of jungle forest that contains trees that are hundreds of years old. Sebeyen Belangk is referred to as a haunted forest because there is a story that this area was once intended to be a burial site (TPU) but was never utilized. At the peak of Sebeyen, there is a stone from which water drips continuously like a person crying. There have been people who heard sounds in that area, but their form is unknown. Sebeyen Belangk is located about 1.2 km from the village office. Until now, the area remains unchanged and has not been altered. It is also said that if someone is about to die, there will be signs that can be heard around Sebeyen Belangk. Sebeyen Belangk is believed to be the dwelling place of the ancestors of the Dayak Lawangk Indigenous community. Therefore, this area is called the Haunted Forest and is protected by the community.
Sebeyen Belangk is not utilized for anything and is not managed by anyone. However, its existence is maintained and cared for by the indigenous community and customary institutions. There are no prohibitions on entering there. According to the community, there is no need for prohibitions, as one will naturally experience mystical/haunted experiences.
If the community protects Sebeyen Belangk, the benefit gained is that the community can live peacefully alongside their ancestors. In any case, the community highly respects and wishes to preserve/protect Sebeyen Belangk so that its existence is not disturbed. The community believes that if the Sebeyen Belangk area is destroyed, disasters will befall them in the future.
