Recommendations for the Government of the Republic of Indonesia for the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP-16) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
Key Recommendations
PROGRESS ON NBSAP: Ensuring full and effective participation of Civil Society Organizations, Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities, Women, Youth, Disability groups, and other marginalized groups in the implementation, review, and monitoring of IBSAP. Non-state actors are strategic partners who can contribute to achieving the targets set in both IBSAP and KM-GBF by enabling various platforms to facilitate dialogue and share learning among parties.
ARTICLE 8J: As a country rich in culture and traditional knowledge, Indonesia can become a champion in advancing traditional knowledge associated with the use of genetic resources, which can be done to support the Program of Work on Article 8j and Institutional Arrangement of the Subsidiary Body on Article 8j.
DIGITAL SEQUENCE INFORMATION: Ensuring a legal framework/security to protect the rights of indigenous peoples, local communities, and women over traditional knowledge and local wisdom associated with the use of genetic resources and DSI.
MONITORING FRAMEWORK: Ensuring the presence of headline indicators across all KM-GBF targets, and adopting land use change and land tenure indicators in target 22 is highly relevant to the Indonesian context, which already has a legal framework recognizing tenure rights for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.
RESOURCE MOBILIZATION: Supporting government efforts to encourage commitments from developed countries to developing countries to support the implementation of KM-GBF by enabling adequate funding that is also accessible to actors contributing to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
